RFID IN THE FIELD OF RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
The construction company, W. Markgraf GmbH & Co KG has a large inventory of tools that will be delivered in containers to construction sites throughout Europe to provide employees on site with sufficient tools. The construction containers have been equipped with a variety of tools and electronic equipment depending on the requirements at the construction site. Currently, the employees get the required tool from the container on site without documentation. This leads to high losses of resources. For that reason, W. Markgraf GmbH & Co KG approached XEDION AG with the request to create a solution that will efficiently reduce these losses.
This year, we are starting a mutual test project for the electronic management of tools for that reason. If RFID technology is suitable for recording the tools used on site and if the loss of high-value equipment can be reduced through documenting them using RFID will be tested. The test project should supply insights into where the RFID technology is feasible for the construction industry and into which influences should be considered.
An Overview of the Project
- Tag the tools using transponders
- Entry using an RFID scanner
- Quick entry processes (in real time)
- Tracing the removal and return of resources
- Reducing the resource losses
